4. How do zebra shades control light?
Zebra shades control light through their alternating stripes. When the sheer and opaque stripes are aligned, they allow light to filter through while maintaining some privacy. By adjusting the stripes so the opaque layers overlap, you can block out more light and enhance privacy. This adjustability allows for a range of lighting options from fully open to completely closed.

Inside Mount or Outside Mount: Your First Decision
Before you measure, if you’re unsure which mount to choose, measure for both options before making a decision.
How to Measure
- Step1: Decide on inside mount or outside mount first
- Step2: Use a metal tape measure (not cloth or soft tape)
- Step3: Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch. Do not round up
- Step4: Always write measurements as Width × Height (W × H)
Inside Mount
- Window Depth : Minimum 2.8" required.
- Window Width : Measure the inside window width at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest measurement.
- Window Height: Measure the inside window height at the left, center, and right. Use the largest measurement.
- Order Width = Window Width - 1/8"
- Order Height ≥ Window Height (For Zebra Shades: Order Height = Window Height)
Outside Mount
- Window Width : Measure the outside window frame width.
- Window Height : Measure the outside window frame height.
- Recommended Order Width: Window Width + 4" or more for better light control and privacy.
